Trained in philosophy, mathematics, physics and logic from the École normale supérieur (ENS) in Lyon, Adrien Barton is a CNRS research fellow at the Toulouse Institute for Computer Research (IRIT), within the MELODI team. His research focuses on applied ontology in an interdisciplinary approach and on applied ethics.

His doctoral thesis was on the ontology of quantum mechanics. He has completed several postdoctoral projects on the contribution of philosophical ontology to applied ontology. He collaborates with computer scientists, physicians, philosophers and lawyers to develop and implement ontologies within a learning health system. He has worked on ethical issues raised by nudges and on consent to secondary use of health data for research purposes.
